Exhibition Report MIDO 2012

From march 11th to 13th, the 42nd MIDO, the world’s biggest international show for Optics, Ophthalmology and Optometry, was taking place in the Rho-Center in Milan. With 42000 visitors in 3 days, the show underlined its standing as being the world’s biggest exhibition for ophthalmics. About 1000 exhibitors from over 40 different countries showed their products in 6 different theme-pavilions.

The MIDO proved to be a complete success for OptoTech as a machine manufacturer and confirmed the companies leading role in the world market of ophthalmic RX-lenses. OptoTech, for the first time ever, showed a complete high-performance cell for freeform lens production. Besides our automatic surfacing-turning machine ASM Flash-A and the automatic polishing machine ASP 80 MULTItool DT-A, OptoTech presented the brand new automatic laser OTL 80 CNC-A. The slim design and the high capacity of up to 300 lenses per hour found great approval of the visitors of our booth.

Furthermore OptoTech showed a compact cell, consisting of our well approved ASM Flash light, our new ASP 80 CNC MULTI Twin and the compact Coating Machine OAC-25. The compact engraving machine OME 80 as well as a demonstration of our very own freeform software completed our product program on the MIDO 2012.

Inhouse Exhibition in China

To strengthen our standing in the Chinese region, we, together with our Chinese agency, organized a 2-day inhouse-exhibition in the city of Hanzhou. The event was splitted in two parts: On December 3rd we organized a seminar with several presentations in the Four Points by Sheraton in Hangzhou. Despite of other presentations, our General Manager Ophthalmics, Mr. Thomas Krausgrill, introduced our company and gave a speech of our freeform technologies. Afterwards, Mr. Tobias Mueller of our Software Design Department, held an oral presentation of our freeform software to the audience of nearly 50 people from 20 different local companies. The day ended with a dinner in the evening.

On December 4th, the visitors had the chance to get a closer look at our machines at our Chinese agency. In our showroom, we presented our freeform generator ASM Flash and our Freeform Software in detail and had the chance to directly answer to the questions of our visitors.

In sum, we had the chance to introduce our whole product portfolio and technologies in detail to the local companies and received great feedback which made the event a complete success.

Exhibition Report Optifab 2011

For the 5th time, Optifab was held at the Rochester Riverside Convention Center in Rochester, NY (USA). Optifab is the leading event for optical fabrication. Also in 2011, Rochester underlined its position as the leading centre for optical production. With Eastman-Kodak as the historical foundation for optical technology in Rochester, the area is known as an incubation centre for many companies dealing with optical technologies similar to the German regions of Jena (Zeiss, Schott) and Wetzlar (Leitz/Leica and Hensoldt/Zeiss).

OptoTech participated at Optifab with a booth and showed only new products. As a world premiere, the new 80 CNC production line was presented, consisting of the SM 80 CNC Generator and the SPO 80 CNC Polisher. These machines define a new class of highly efficient optical equipment, with an excellent price to performance ratio. The exhibit was enhanced with the OWI 100 ECO Workshop Interferometer and the ZM 50 CNC TwinCut Edger, as well as software solutions for optical job planning and tool design.

New presented machines: SM 80 CNC and SPO 80 CNC

Despite a slight downturn in attendees, Optifab has been deemed a success by all exhibitors. Of particular interest was the high participation rate of European exhibitors and visitors, especially from Germany. German could be heard at many booths and in the aisles.

The exhibition was accompanied by a range of technical papers and talks. OptoTech’s President and CEO, Roland Mandler, gave an impressive presentation on the topic of processing free form optics.

He also commented “The economic upturn has also arrived in the United States. For OptoTech it was a very important mile stone. No other manufacturer can offer such a broad range of fabrication technology from one source. We were also able to demonstrate our status as the world market leader in North America”, stated Roland Mandler, President and CEO of OptoTech Optikmaschinen GmbH.

We all look forward to the next OptiFab 2013 to be held in Rochester October 14-17, 2013.
